The University of Auckland Bangladeshi Society has been tentatively approved as an officially recognised student society, marking a milestone for the Bangladeshi community at UoA.
The University of Auckland Bangladeshi Society has officially received tentative approval from the University of Auckland Students' Association.
This approval marks the first time Bangladeshi students at the University of Auckland have had a formally recognised, dedicated society to call their own. The society was formed to address the long-standing need for a platform that brings Bangladeshi students together — for cultural celebration, mutual support, and meaningful engagement with university life.
The application was formally submitted on 15 March 2026, backed by more than 57 founding members and strong engagement from across the university. The founding group worked tirelessly to draft a comprehensive constitution, define a clear vision and mission, and build a broad, inclusive membership base.
With the executive committee now in place, the society will begin rolling out its planned programme of events, mentoring initiatives, and cultural activities. The first major event — the Pohela Boishakh Celebration and Cultural Night — is already in the works.
We thank every founding member and supporter who made this possible. This is just the beginning.
